Part three of the new exclusive concert series in the gallery gugging – the gallery gugging special edition‘ # 3: Christopher James Chaplin (live) & Luma.Launisch (visuals). Live premiere of his new opus!

The British composer and experimental music artist Christopher James Chaplin studied piano under Irene Denereaz in Switzerland before moving to London in the 1980s. In 2009 after composition commissions for plays, string quartets and orchestra, he and the sound artist Thomas Pötz, alias Kava, got invited by the Viennese record label “Fabrique Records” to produce the electronic concept album “Seven Echoes”. One year later, the album was already released and the premiere took place in the museum gugging.

During the festival “Gugginger Irritationen”, he met the electronic music pioneer Hans-Joachim Roedelius, who invited him subsequently to a collective live session for the British broadcast transmitter BBC Radio 3. Among others, the conjoint album “King of Hearts” developed from this collaboration. In the following years, the two of them performed live at many music and art festivals around the globe.

In autumn last year, Christopher Chaplin released his long-awaited, much-praised solo debut album “Je suis le Ténébreux”, that emerged in the studio of the legendary French Band “Air” and in various studios in England. These compositions encounter experimental musical influences with a mysterious text from the 16th century. The album reestablishes his reputation as an exceptional artist at the interface between avant-garde and electronic music.

For his upcoming concert on 8 October 2017 the composer thought out something special – he will introduce completely new material as part of an electronic solo set live in the gallery gugging and will be visually supported by the video artists “Luma.Launisch”.

A little extract from Christopher Chaplin’s performance was already presented at his celebrated solo show in the ORF Radiokulturhaus in Vienna. Now you have the opportunity to experience the entire opus live for the first time. An exclusive premiere in a unique framework!
