Martín Ramírez was born in 1895 in Tepatitlán, Mexico, and died in 1963. Ramírez formed bizarre fantasy landscapes out of lines and infused them with memories from his past such as caballeros, Madonnas, or trains. Through delicate hatching, he succeeded in adding depth to the mostly hilly panoramas with their tunnels and arcades. In 1925, he emigrated from Mexico to California. Already in the 1950s, the first small exhibitions with works took place. Meanwhile, his works can be found in the American Folk Art Museum, USA, in the MoMA, USA, and in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Spain, among others.
